Hi,
I am Alexandra Zirinis and I am lucky enough to live in London, where I find myself exposed to an international art scene. I also love to travel and when I do, I immediately go to my favourite galleries and museums in that city. If, however, it is a new destination, I look to art-related publications like Artforum and FAD magazine (I may be bias as I write for the them!) Books and city guides (Phaidon Press has great ones) also help me to compile a must- see list of all things art.
I visit and engage with all the shows I can, and then I write about those that I find most captivating. I am especially drawn to exhibitions and artwork that urges its' audience to extend a conversation. Whether it means discussing the work amongst colleagues and friends over drinks, or dedicating days to writing a piece about one specific artist, I think it's crucial, and so powerful, when art is carried into all different areas of life. After all, it (almost always) tells a story; I aim to find the stories that demand our attention.
Over the years I have become increasingly fascinated by the lives of artists, their practices, and how they are able to influence the world through their art. More and more, artists are using their public platform, combined with their creative talent to propel discussions addressing the problems that plague our world. Occasionally, if I am especially interested in a story, I will try to interview artists, gallerists, museum curators etc. Other than that, I try not to stray from creating relevant, entertaining (hopefully!) and moving, art enthused stories.
You don’t have to know anything about art to read my posts - it is meant to be easy and enjoyable - and hopefully some the stories will affect you as they do me. Then, it is your turn to further the conversation in any way you choose !
